Guest Speakers/Members:

Caroline introduced Lorna Douglas from Northtec who spoke to us about her role in marketing Northtec programmes.  Specifically she spoke about the Diploma in Conservation and Environmental Management. For further information on this diploma and other Northtec programmes contact Lorna on ldouglas@northec.ac.nz or on (09) 470 3832.

Caroline spoke to us and demonstrated the web based Learning Management System and Video Conferencing in conjunction with virtual learning.  It was decided that for our next non conference meeting we look at holding it via video conferencing.  We could possibly look at holding two meeting per year using video conferencing and one where we all met together.

Stephanie, Northtec spoke to us about generic unit standards that they are offering for Gateway students – contact Stephanie for more information – saitcheson@northtec.ac.nz

Unit Standards:

62 – L2/C2 – Maintain personal presentation in the workplace.

64 – L1/C2 – Perform calculations for the workplace.

6400 – L3/C2 – Manage first aid in emergency situations.

6401 – L2/C1 – Provide first aid.

6402 – L1/C1 – Provide resuscitation level 2.

497 – L1/C1 – Protect health and safety in the workplace.

17592 – L3/C4 – Identify the causes of back injury and methods to prevent back injuries in the workplace.

Agenda Items/General Business:

  • Julie expressed interest in visiting the local prison.  In the interests of “career opportunities in our area”  we could look at having similar visits in different areas of the north.
  • NorthCATE logo – outcome as noted in “matters arising from minutes”.
  • How is C.A.T.E. catering for Auckland members already? P.D., speakers etc.  Debra to contact Auckland C.A.T.E. to get ideas for our network.
  • It was suggested we send NorthCATE application forms to I.T.O.’s, Principals, councils etc.  Shirley suggested rather than to Principals we should present a certificate to each school to highlight they are NorthCATE members.  Maybe provide a frame as well.  It was suggested we have an official launch when Karen Vaughan speaks in Whangarei 20 September.  After discussion it was agreed that we would hold this launch.  A cake would be made and iced with our new logo and cut by Karen Vaughan. Mark to authorise the launch with Career Services. Gay to organise cake and icing – to get copy of logo from Debra – NorthCate to reimburse cost.   Kathy to have camera on the day.  Julie to arrange a press release and to contact the media.  NorthCATE membership application forms will be available on the day – Debra to organise the application forms.  Carolyn to look into the possibility of having Video conferencing equipment available on the day.

Meeting c losed: 2.55pm with a special thanks to Carol for providing the venue and hospitality and to Debra for the work with the logos.
