Minutes of the Waikato branch of CATE Term 2 meeting

Held at Hillcrest High School, 22 May 2008 at 4pm

Present: Jane Thomas, Scott Barry, Eleanor Fraser, Pauline Sweetman, Trish Pascoe, Christine Dickson, Rosemarie Cann, Tanya Houghton

Meeting opened at 4-10pm with Jane welcoming everyone and thanking Scott for hosting us.

General discussion about a range of issues

  • How schools are dealing with Section 71 students
  • Beauty Therapy units for Gateway - suggestions WINTEC, Pharmacy units and the South Pacific Institute
  • Instant US are moving away from the Units Online project - new stuff coming up
  • BCITO will hopefully have plumbing units in package
  • Sacred Heart are looking for journalism units for Level 3 - any suggestions?
  • Workchoice Day - good range of venues this year including the Airport, Glenbrook Steel Mill, Waipa and Waikato District Councils, New World supermarkets and Huntly Power Station. Suggested that we notify them of suggested industries at the end of the year.

CATE conference - many have registered already. To register, go straight to www.cateconference.co.nz rather than thru the CATE website. Jane to organise a Waikato dinner for one of the nights again. Linda Merriman is probably taking a van down and wants to know if people would like to travel with her.
