Hawkes Bay CATE Regional Minutes November 2006

Minutes of the Regional Meeting for Hawke’s Bay CATE in Rotorua 24.11.06

Present Adie Graham, Nicki Dowling, Cyndy Morgan, Barbara Herbert, Rachel Mohi, Jan Crawford, Hilda Overeem, Di Strawbridge, Russell Booth, Bev Camp, Sue Ross, Kerre Devonport-Ward.

  1. Constitution

A good time to revise parts of the constitution especially the legal sections. There is nothing too contentious. New passage covers the Executive involvement in the National Conference if there is no region prepared to host it.

Questions and comments from Hawke’s Bay:

Why should the National CATE Exec Officers have to be based in one region? (In today’s E climate isn’t this a dinosaur?

Why should the President have to stand down after 3 years?

National CATE should develop a succession plan for office holders.

Adie commented on the fact that we have had a chance to comment on the constitution at our last meeting and exec would not be happy to hold the ratification process up this year

Action for Adie: Put these proposals forward for the next round of discussion.

Action for all members: Read Constitution and bring any further comments or recommendations to the first CATE meeting of 2007

National Exec Meeting Report back from Adie:

  • Discussion on Constitution
  • Discussion and strong support for CPaBL initiative
  • Website development going to plan. Thoughts on the table about a better navigation tool employing a drop down menu, a search function and a forum function.(There was not a great response from HB members about the use of a forum)
  • Ascot Park Complex. Info up on the web in February. Theme is “Breaking the Ice”
  • Should Hawke’s Bay put forward a tentative offer to host the National Conference in 2008? There was much discussion around this as well as some fantastic ideas. Adie to moot it with Executive.
  • Discussion on remit relating to Careers Adviser’s Allowance to be linked to $$ value of an MU.
  • Draft Curriculum reviewed by Auckland CATE branch. They felt Careers were not articulated well in the document. (Refer to Auckland handout and statement on reverse)
  • Final discussion on combining the STAR Cluster and CATE Hawke’s Bay meeting on one day.
