Canterbury/Westland Regional Report to CATE AGM 2006
The Canterbury /Westland Branch of CATE continues to be strong. The goal this year again was to have a General Meeting a term and also to try to rotate the venue to different schools.
The AGM in Term 1 was held at Kaiapoi High School on Jumbo Day. Marie Marquet, Viv Straight and Ann Archer were re-elected as officeholders with Lyn Turnbull (National Executive representative), Alan Wilson (West Coast) Keith Thomson, Heather Scott, Jacqui Walker, Wendy Toohey and Rosie Brodie (re) /elected as the other members of the committee. After the formal proceedings the meeting moved to the Waipara Valley for professional development in vitaculture and the wine industry.
Craig Banbury, a Tourism Entrepreneur was the guest speaker at the second term meeting at Girls? High School and Gerry Hassan, a Kiwi-host facilitator spoke at the final meeting at Villa Maria College. Gerry spoke on What do employers want? and quoted extensively from an address he had heard from Phil O?Reilly, a proposed speaker at this 2006 National Conference.
Significant agenda items at the general meetings as in the previous year included STAR and the meetings with the STAR Advisor, Arthur Sutherland, Designing Careers, Conference, Work Choice day, Gateway and the draft Curriculum statements. Keith Thomson also encouraged members to address PPTA branch meetings about workload issues and time allowances
