These are but a few of the many great success stories that have happened
and are going on here at
Oathuhu College through the Gateway Programme.
Talosaga Sifakula is a Year 13 student who did his Gateway
Programme with the National Bank. He was also head teller for our
school banking that we run here at Oathuhu College. For the past three
years -as a result of the Gateway programme- school banking is open to
the whole school. Talosaga completed a level 4 unit standard-
and did so well in this programme that the National Bank offered him
full time employment.
This Year 13 student was interested in
studying medicine- so through the Gateway Programme he was able to spend
time in the Emergency Department at Middlemore Hospital in many areas
such as adult assessment, pediatrics, minor surgery, radiology- to name
but a few.
This Year 13 student who was one of four
students who worked with TVNZ and Asia Down Under where the students
were able to put together a story that went to air on Asia Down Under.
Another Year 13 group was also interested in
working in the media industry, and was able to put together a story for Tagata Pasifika that went to air, also on TVNZ. One of these students now
has their own show on Triangle TV.
These two Year 13 students spent time working with
Air NZ Gas and Turbines- as they were interested in working in Aviation
Engineering.
This Year 13 student worked with AirNZ Domestic
as she was interested in pursing a career in Tourism.
The last two pictures are a group of Year 13 students who are
interested in a career with the NZ Fire Service. These students
completed training with the NZ Fire Service as well as being assigned
each to a watch where they took part in all areas and duties required of
a Fire Officer. These students also completed industry specific unit
standards specific to the NZ Fire Service and were assessed in the work
place.
