Professionalism and Ethics

  1. Act in a professional and ethical manner by promoting and maintaining high professional and ethical standards.

  2. Ensure that you know the limits of your own competencies and do not operate outside those limits by only offering services for which you are qualified and trained.

  3. Keep abreast of relevant changes and advances in career development theory.

  4. Provide clear and comprehensive information to students about the career development process.

  5. Know how social, cultural, educational, gender, age etc. factors are likely to impact on the careers development process.

  6. Endeavour to avoid doing harm or cause distress to those affected by the career development process.

  7. Be able to identify when the needs or symptoms with which a student presents fall outside your expertise and should be dealt with by another health care professional.
