General Business:
Subscriptions
It was agreed the  NorthCATE subscriptions remain the same for the 2009 year - $50 per school, further $35 per additional members.

Meeting dates for 2009:

John raised the issue of better organising our meeting dates so they tie in with other PD opportunities such as Gateway /Star PD or Cluster meeting days.  It becomes an issue for members who have long distances to travel ? more sensible to have a day?s timetable of meetings than 1 x 2hour meeting.
Agreed to approach Grace and Bruce of TEC and Mark from Star about this possibility and for consensus on future dates.  Probably too late to organise any changes for Star/Gateway Expo on 26 February - but future meeting dates could be negotiated.

Date of next NorthCATE meeting, Thursday 14 May in Whangarei

Action:
1  Debra will email TEC and Star to advise of date and ask for integration of meetings.

2  CATE Executive Meeting on 30 March in Wellington.Do members have any issues/ questions they wish to raise about career education?

Blue - impact of economic down-turn on our students in relation to post-school options and opportunities - 2009 has seen return of greater than anticipated numbers of senior students return to school.  How will we adequately cater for their needs?  Reluctance by students to pursue tertiary courses when only financial avenue is a student loan.

AGM closed at 2.50pm, followed by regional meeting.

General Business:
Northland Careers Roadshow discussion:
Rachel and Deb were acknowledged for their presence and participation in this discussion.
Objectives of Roadshow: Acknowledgement that the Roadshow belongs to the Far North Schools.
It works best to have a co-ordinator - as Jackie Fowke has been.
Budget issues are impacting on planning from tertiary provider?s point of view
Massey and
Waikato are committed to keep the event annual while other universities, and some PTEs, are looking at bi-annual.
The hikoi works well - suggestion (Blue) that Roadshow and hikoi be combined.
Timing is important - august a good time of year - before subject choices and when starting to think about future plans - works well for Kaitaia, Okaihau

Formats:Formats in schools shared - some schools well organised, others not so - important for students to be focussed so they get greatest benefit. Different activities discussed - questionnaires, tie in with TRG.
Also - teachers need to be on board - suggestion that an opportunity be given to teachers to 'mix and mingle' either at interval or lunchtime with the tertiary providers - opportunity to update themselves about future options for students - also re own PD possibilities.

Timing and schedule:Dates and schedule of schools for 2009 discussed.Would Kerikeri take an afternoon/evening spot on the Thursday ? had run an early evening event in the past.

Resolutions: After discussion, it was agreed by those present that the Northland Careers Roadshow would run in week of Monday 29 June to Thursday 2 July.  This is last week of term 2.  It was also agreed that this week ? the last week of Term 2 - would be blocked by tertiary providers for the Northland Roadshow from 2010 onwards.

The details of the schedule and providers attending would by posted on the NorthCATE page of the CATE website by the co-ordinator (Jackie)

Rachel and Deb were thanked for their input, discussion and co-operation to meet a beneficial resolution

Meeting closed at 4.45pm.
