the year - where did it go? Below some
information, bits of news and happenings for the rest of the year
What's hot with STAR and the wider Pathways picture:
Funding Reports
Most of you should receive feedback from us over the next 2 weeks. Please take note of the recommendations if they are there, and if you would like us to visit, we are only a phone call or email away.

Youth Apprenticeship Scheme
No decision has been made yet with what is happening with YAS in 2010. If you are not familiar with what it means, do a search on www.minedu.govt.nz site using Youth Apprenticeship as a search word.
Māori, Pasifika, GATE, At Risk, Special Needs and ESOL
Remember that this is a huge focus in education currently. Researched evidence clearly indicates that these groups require extra consideration if we are to deliver equitably. Mid-year is a good time to review whether your STAR activity reflects adequate attention to these groups. Do you have a STAR policy yet?
Reviewing STAR activity and looking to the future
If you are unsure how to do this, or would like the support of objective eyes over the situation in your school, please contact us and make a time for us to come and work with you. This is our job; We are willing and able to help!
CATE Conference - registration is live online from now. It is great PD and the STAR fund can be used to provide such valuable PD. There is a section specifically for Pathways The Advisers are working on this now!

Cluster Meeting : we have suggested a Pathways cluster meeting Thursday 26 November
in Hamilton and Friday 27 November in Rotorua. Venues to be advised.
This meeting is open to all Pathways personnel in your school, e.g. Gateway,
CA, STAR etc. Time to be likely from 10-2, with lunch included. We are looking for suggestions/ ideas/inspirations for what you would
like to see happen on this day . The day might include:
- STAR in 2010
- Best practice of Pathways schools- sharing more of our stories
- What does Youth Guarantee look like?
- Demonstrations of software such as dream catcher and Worsfold
- FRF 2008 sharing of meeting needs of certain students
- Using the data on the FRF--- best practice for self review
- The wider careers team, what does that look like?
- Use of the wiki nationally
These are only ideas; please email us with your suggestions
