Careers NZ launch Compare - career tool
Young people can be faced with too many or too few career
choices and sometimes struggle with weighing up the options and
information that's out there.
With the help of a smart new online tool from Careers New
Zealand, comparing two jobs just got easier.
Where previously you had to go back and forth between job
outlines,Compare lets you see the two jobs side by side on screen.
Let's say a young person wants to get into teaching but is
having difficulty deciding between primary and secondary teaching.
Using theComparetool they can select two jobs alongside each other
and make a direct comparison between aspects of the jobs such as
tasks, requirements for entry, the chances of finding work and the
amount they can earn.
Users are encouraged to think more broadly about their career
decision making, for example, for someone who has their hopes
pinned on being a doctor, get them to compare GP with related jobs
in the health field to help them find out why GP is for them. It's
also helpful for those who want to narrow down diverse options to
weigh up two very different career paths.
You can find Compareunder the Interactive Tools tab at www.careers.govt.nz or by
typing 'compare' into the main search box.
TheComparetool is already getting high visit numbers. So next
time the opportunity for a career conversation comes up click
on'Compare'and have a go for yourself.
We're continuing to add more features to Compare. Meanwhile
feedback on this new tool is welcome by emailing Careers New
Zealand website content developer James Watson at james.watson@careers.govt.nz.
