Aspiring young professionals at Gisborne Girls' High School are one step closer to fulfilling their dreams after the donation of a careers computer.
The school was presented a computer by careers advisory company Inzone at a school assembly on Friday. It is now at the Careers Work Department for children to research potential careers.
Department head Penny Clarke, who is now on study leave, said it opened up the scope of opportunities for students at the school. "It's for all students and the younger we get them in the better. Anything that helps them to make good decisions, the better. It's amazing - we are just absolutely blown away by it."
Inzone's Gisborne representative Peter Jarratt was "really impressed" with GGHS because of its Gateway programme to get students work experience. Mr Jarrett said the businesses and industries represented on the computer wanted the computers in bigger schools.
"I met Penny last year and I thought she was one of the best careers advisers I had met. So I said to the boss, 'I want a computer in there', and he agreed. "What this means is they will be able to research careers whenever they want."
Having this accessibility "empowered" students in their learning, he said.
