Contribute to International Research on Career Decision-Making
CATE members are invited to contribute to an international student-led research project exploring career decision-making, uncertainty and help-seeking among young people.
Shui Otaka, a high school student at Salesian International School in Japan, is investigating the pressure young people can feel to choose the “right” university, subject or career pathway, and whether seeking support can strengthen rather than reduce students’ independence and self-determination.
The research also explores whether young people feel comfortable saying “I’m not sure yet,” changing their minds, and reconsidering their pathway without feeling they have failed.
Shui is seeking perspectives from career practitioners, educators, researchers and other professionals working with young people. Responses from New Zealand will contribute to an international comparison of how different education systems support young people with career exploration, uncertainty and decision-making.
The questionnaire is short, and we encourage CATE members to contribute.
